There were top of the table clashes in both divisions of the Cumberland County League on Saturday.
In the Premier Division UniSun Athletic hosted Wigton Harriers while in Division One Carlisle City travelled to Cleator Moor Celtic.
With both teams joint top of the Premier Division on seven points prior to kick off, UniSun and Wigton knew that a win would put them clear at the top of the league.
It was UniSun who came away with the points from a close match at Sheepmount which ended 2-1 in their favour.
Both defences were on top in the first half and both teams were restricted to long shots.
In the second half the game opened-up and in the 59th minute UniSun took the lead.
A superb solo run from Dillon Burns was halted when he was barged over in the box and Benn Atkinson converted the penalty with an emphatic strike into the top corner.
The lead was doubled within a minute as Burns found Shane Dorward with an excellent switched pass and he beat his marker before firing the ball into the bottom corner from distance.
Wigton managed to pull a goal back in the 88th minute when Ryan Hanley whipped in a corner that evaded everyone and flew into the far side of the net.
UniSun saw out four minutes of injury time to claim all three points and move clear of Wigton at the top.
Division One leaders Carlisle City travelled to second placed Cleator Moor and extended their advantage at the top to nine points as their 100% record remained intact with a 3-0 win.
Bobby Dixon continued his excellent goalscoring form with another two goals which takes his total to 13 in just seven games. Alex Cairns also added his name to the scoresheet.

Aspatria and Cockermouth played their Cumberland FA County Cup tie at the third time of asking with the game moved to Lakes College 3G due to both teams’ pitches still being unplayable.
Cockermouth moved into the next round as goals from Luke Graham, Kyran Bertram and Brett Smith gave them a 3-0 win to set up a tie with local rivals Keswick.
Gosforth at home to Whitehaven Miners 1sts finished in a 3-2 win for the hosts who have won two of their first three games and move into joint third place in the Premier Division. Joe Dorgan, Matthew Pilkington and Andrew Bulman scored for Gosforth with Jordan Todd and Lewis Park replying for Miners.
There was better news for Miners Development side who earned their first win of the season and heaped more misery on bottom club Silloth with a dominant 10-0 victory.
Dale Anderton helped himself to four goals and was supported by Owen Power, Cyran Corlett, Braydon Walmsley and Ryan O’Neil who grabbed one each.
Silloth put through their own goal twice to complete a miserable afternoon for the Seagulls.
Bransty Rangers moved level with Cleator Moor Celtic in second place as they overcame Windscale Reserves 5-3. Bransty’s goals were scored by Adam Smith (2), Michael Garroway, Mark Callan and an own goal.
Ben Graham (2) and Matt Sempill replied for Windscale.
