Workington’s second round Cumberland County Cup game postponed

Workington’s second round Cumberland County Cup game tonight at home to Windscale has been postponed.

Heavy rain over the weekend and overnight left Borough Park in a poor state, and with an NPL West game on Saturday against Widnes, it was decided to call it off.

No new date has been announced but if the weather improves both clubs are looking at the prospect of playing next Tuesday.

Reds manager Danny Grainger had been planning to use players short of minutes recently while including one or two promising members of the Development squad.

It’s been a disappointing few days for Windscale as their game at home to Silksworth in the Wearside League on Saturday was also the subject of a weather-related postponement.

Windscale have also heard that their recent 14-0 victory over Dirham City will be erased from the Wearside League table as their opponents have resigned from the League.

City have been in free-fall for at least a couple of years and were relegated from the Northern League where they suffered numerous heavy defeats.

They only had ten players for the game at the Falcon Field but showed a lot of spirit in seeing it through to the end.
