A group of people begging in Carlisle city centre have been moved on by police and council officials.
The people, from outside of the county, were offered support from the authority’s homeless team, but assistance was declined.
They continued to beg so police and council enforcement officers took down their names and addresses and using powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act, asked them to leave.
Carlisle police said: “Whenever someone is reported as begging or sleeping rough in our city, attempts will be made by the local authority to visit them and offer support before any action would be considered.”
