A Lake District town is gearing up for a Christmas extravaganza next month.
Windermere Christmas Celebration will take place on December 10 and 11, featuring live music and on-street entertainment over the weekend, with food and craft stalls and Taylor’s Fun Fair making an appearance.
The successful weekend-long event draws crowds of thousands from across the country to Windermere to enjoy food, drink, and family festivities. Father Christmas is expected to make an appearance and event organisers understand the Grinch could be back to try and dampen spirits.
Led by the team from the Windermere Tourist Information Centre and The Mountain Goat, the community-run event hopes it can now establish itself for many years to come will put the event on a sustainable footing for future years, alongside giving the event a more intimate winter wonderland feels.
Event director Kate Barton, of Windermere TI, thanked all the support the event has received. She said: “After much discussion and feedback from our local area, we made the decision to bring the event back to Victoria Street, High Street, and Cross Street, keeping the festive spirit alive throughout the town.
“It’s been a challenging few years for events, and we were determined to bounce back better than ever I want to thank the continued from key partners like Mountain Goat, Lamplighter Dining Rooms, Windermere Town Council, McClures and Windermere Lake Cruises as well as many more.”
Windermere councillor Ben Berry said that it felt great to bring the event back. He added: “I know so many friends, family, and businesses that have very much missed the event for the past two years.
“Getting the event back on the calendar and on a firm financial footing is now key to ensuring we can enjoy getting together in this way for many more years to come. I have heard worrying reports about the Grinch’s return but we’ll just have to deal with him as in previous years!”
