Kendal Town moved smoothly through their Macron Cup-tie at Burscough last night as they won 4-1.
Star of the show was striker Tom Kilifin who helped himself to a hat-trick, including two quite spectacular finishes.
There was a remarkable start with a goal apiece in the first six minutes.
On just two minutes Steve Yawson beat the Burscough off-side trap and went on to lay an inviting ball across goal for Shaun Sailor to tap home.
The lead lasted just four minutes but the Burscough equaliser was highly controversial.
Kendal defender Nathan Hankinson was trying to shepherd the ball out of play for a goal-kick when he clearly appeared to be pulled aside.
Everyone seemed to stop waiting for the whistle but it didn’t come as Jordan Monthe laid the ball across goal for Chrissy Happi-Fankam to slide home the equaliser.
Kendal went back in front after 15 minutes with a super goal from Tom Kilifin. Spinning free on the edge of the box he volleyed a terrific shot past home keeper Charles Monks.
Kendal scored their third after 31 minutes when Sailor put in a strong run down the wing. He played it in to Yawson and he laid on a chance at the far post for Kilifin which was accepted with relish.
Kendal had dominated the game and apart from the disputed equaliser had never seriously been tested.
Kendal could have increased their lead 10 minutes after the restart when Yawson drilled a dangerous ball across goal and Brandon Croskell-Robinson just couldn’t get on the end of it.
Kilifin was close to his hat-trick on 69 minutes when he got on the end of a Rob Wilson free-kick but just lifted the ball over the bar.
But he didn’t have to wait long to notch his treble, producing another remarkable finish on 73 minutes, this time from an overhead kick.
