A Workington man has admitted behaving violently as he stole meat from a town supermarket.
Philip Holm, 41, was initially charged with robbery following an incident at the Iceland store in Pow Street on September 17.
However, the robbery charge was withdrawn when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today and pleaded guilty to two alternative charges which were deemed acceptable by the prosecution.
Holm admitted theft of £90.75-worth of meat from the supermarket, and also affray having used or threatened unlawful violence towards another.
No information about the two offences was outlined during a short hearing in front of Judge Nicholas Barker.
Judge Barker adjourned the case, agreeing to the request of Holm’s lawyer that a pre-sentence report should be prepared by a probation officer before the punishment is handed down.
“His offending over the last four years has not been as active as it had been previously,” said Judge Barker. Holm had been convicted of one shop theft earlier this year, possessing a controlled drug in 2020 and another theft in 2018.
Holm is due to be sentenced at the crown court on January 5, 2023, and was granted bail by the judge in the meantime.
Conditions were imposed which mean he must live and sleep each night at an address on Harrington Road, Workington, and observe an electrically monitored night time curfew.
