Barrow slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season last night – caned 5-0 at second-in-the-table Stevenage.
The Bluebirds stay fourth but they now have the poorest goal differential among the top eight clubs.
Remarkably possession stats revealed a 50-50 cut but the telling fact was that Barrow did not register a shot on target out of 10 attempts.
A miserable night, after the long trip south, was completed four minutes from time when Tyrell Warren headed a Jake Reeves corner into his own net to give Boro their nap hand.
It had been Reeves who had set his side on their way with a superb goal on 18 minutes after he lined-up a shot from 25 yards and left Paul Farman helpless.
A poor clearance from Farman five minutes into the second-half produced Stevenage’s second goal as Jamie Reid was left on his own to lift the ball into an empty net from 30 yards.
There was just no way Barrow were going to come back when Stevenage scored their third goal on 75 minutes when Dan Sweeney was left unchallenged to head in a Reeves’ corner.
Three minutes later Barrow were undone again when they conceded a penalty and Luke Norris made no mistake from the spot.
There was still the own goal to come four minutes from time before Barrow could retreat to the dressing room.
Stevenage’s win keeps them on the heels of leaders Leyton Orient at the top while Barrow will be sweating on a few results later today to keep them in the top six.
