Workington Reds Ladies have announced that another talented local teenager has decided to join the club.
Liv Bennett joins having made the difficult decision to leave the Newcastle United Development set-up in order to free up some time to concentrate on the academic side of her life.
Liv is a creative attacking player that can play in any of the advanced positions on the pitch. She comes from Cockermouth and spent her earlier years in the girls section of the town’s football club.
During her time there she has amassed an extremely impressive goal scoring record and caught the eye of many spectators.
She left the Under 16s team having played a significant part in the team’s success over the years, which among other successes included two County Cup titles, scoring a hat-trick in the Under 14s final in 2020.
She then moved on to Durham Academy Under 16s team before moving in the summer to Newcastle.
On taking the decision to leave Newcastle she said: “Travelling over to the North East three times every week for over 18 months has been a massive commitment from both myself and my family.
“Combining this initially with my GCSEs and now A-level studies has been difficult at times and I have found that I’ve had to make compromises between these two very important parts of my life.
“I am extremely excited and happy to be joining the Reds Ladies. Some of my friends play for them and they speak very highly of their team-mates and the direction that the club is going in.
“There are a lot of quality footballers at the club and I’m looking forward to learning from the team and continue my development as a footballer.”
Liv has previously played for the current Ladies manager Paul Mackenzie and coach Colin Teasdale whilst as a junior at Cockermouth Junior Football Club.
Reds goalkeeper coach/assistant coach Rebecca Scott said: “Everyone speaks highly of Liv both as a player and as a person, I’m sure this opportunity is going to be great for her and the club.
“I’ve watched her play a couple of times and she is really sharp in possession, has plenty of pace and control and has the instinct to find the back of the net too.”
Liv will be sponsored by Edmondson Electrical for the rest of the season.
