People in Bothel and Torpenhow are reminded that pedestrian access will not be available along the Torpenhow road and path.
The county council is making improvements to the Greyhound Inn junction on the A595.
The project aims to improve the quality of the roads, reduce travel times, plus improve reliability, safety, and resilience of journeys.
Pedestrians have previously been able to access the closed Torpenhow Road in the evening and on weekends; however, to ensure public safety restrictions will continue until Wednesday January 18.
This closure date is weather dependent, and the county council will inform people once the road is open again to pedestrians.
It added that work was progressing well and despite the recent wet weather, work has continued with the excavation and drainage for the new section of road to Torpenhow, as well as the diversion of Bothel Beck.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am delighted with the progress of the construction, and the recent severe weather hasn’t slowed the project down. It will improve connectivity between Carlisle and West Cumbria.
“I understand that closing pedestrian access to Torpenhow Road is frustrating for the local residents, but public safety is our top priority, and this closure is necessary to keep the public and staff safe.”
“I would like to thank all the local residents, who have been extremely supportive and patient while we continue to improve the road network.”
