
A level crossing in South Cumbria failed, leading to a road closure being put in place.
The level crossing on Duddon Road at Askham-in-Furness had its lights stuck on red and the crossing barriers were not closing.
Cumbria police have advised drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area. A road closure was put into place on January 7.
An alternative route for vehicles was available on Lots Road further along the A595 towards the Dalton bypass.
Network Rail informed police that due to industrial action, it was unable to attend and a road closure was likely remain throughout the night – but engineers attended yesterday, January 8 and the level crossing was fixed and the road reopened.
