The fans are used to dramatic finishes at Borough Park, and they were treated to another in a pulsating contest.
But this time Workington had to be content with a share of the spoils as it was Prescot Cables who scored the last gasp goal for a 3-3 draw.
John Murphy headed Prescot’s equaliser in the closing seconds of the four minutes of added time – after Reds had gone in front for the first time in the 89th minute.
Jim Atkinson had turned over Joel Connolly’s fierce 25 yarder but from the corner Murphy got highest to head home and give Prescot what most fans thought was a deserved point.
Workington had only just gone in front when substitute Steven Rigg turned smartly in the area and fired low into the bottom corner.
Prescot, with Murphy and the tricky Jack Goodwin, always dangerous had twice held the lead in the first half.

On four minutes Murphy held off two defenders after dispossessing Brad Hubbold before firing past Atkinson.
Scott Allison intercepted a poor back pass before thumping the ball beyond Mitchell Allen for a 22nd minute equaliser.

But on 33 minutes Prescot skipper Josh Gregory fired in a second goal for the visitors after a corner had only been partially cleared.
Lewis Reilly scooped home Dave Symington’s cross for Workington’s 62nd minute equaliser and Symington hit the post with one of his trademark rockets.

Murphy curled one just wide for Prescot and Atkinson did well to keep out a shot from Kyle Sambot as the game ebbed and flowed right to the end.
It was a very good game, with Prescot looking as smart a side as any that’s played in West Cumbria this season.

Reds boss Danny Grainger accepted that the visitors had deserved something from the game, but was frustrated about his side’s performance.

“I wish the players had as much belief in themselves as I have in their ability. It was very frustrating, and In was particularly disappointed in our game management at the end.
“To go in front for the first time after 89 minutes and not be able to see it out over four minutes of added time was extremely disappointing.

“We didn’t keep the ball and gave away silly free-kicks which invited them back onto us,” said the Reds manager.
