Meanwhile in the Mixed 2 League Marchon and Seascale met with the hosts wanting to keep their unbeaten run going.

This time they hosted a stronger Seascale 2 within a week of facing Seascale 3 away.

The first game didn’t go to plan for the home side, with Seascale’s Joe Alderson/Pam Douglas firing on all cylinders,.

Out to prove a point against last season’s Mixed 2 champions, they won 21-12, 21-12 against Marchon’s A pair of John Le Jeune/Yvonne Wilkinson.

However, Marchon’s B pair, Matt O’Sullivan/Becka Steven managed to get things back on track for the home side, eventually running out winners in a tough contest, 21-17, 11-21, 21-18 against Jordan Martin/Sue Alderson.

In the next round of games, Marchon’s A pair nearly had another scare, before they only just managed to win the first end 24-22 against Martin/S. Alderson.

They soon got their act together winning the second end a more comfortably by 21-9, to give Marchon a 2-1 lead.

J. Alderson/Douglas once against proved too strong for the home side, claiming another victory, 21-14, 21-18 against O’Sullivan/Steven.

It meant the match was tied at 2-2, and the points all to play for.

The first game saw Le Jeune, this time playing with Steven, going on court to face mother and son duo of J and S Alderson, and it was the home pair who come out winners 21-14, 21-11.

It set up a final show down between O’Sullivan, this time playing with Wilkinson, up against Martin/Douglas from Seascale.

Seascale needed to secure this final game to tie the overall match.

It was the Marchon pair who managed to clinch a nail-biting first end, 22-20, before the away pair came back strongly, taking the second end 21-12.

That took the contest into a deciding end and it was the home side who managed to just do enough to secure themselves overall victory, by edging the third end 21-16,

It meant Marchon 2 remained unbeaten and took the match 4-2.

A Marchon 2 side were also involved in a Doubles League clash at home to Cockermouth.

The visitors were looking to bounce back after their home defeat to Seascale and the first round of games all went Cockermouth’s way.

First up were their A pair of Dan Casson/Andy Smith against Marchon’s top pairing of Annie Ashburner/Zoe Bettinson.

After a good fight by the girls against the two more powerful lads, the home pair took the first end 21-15.

The lads fought back in the second and third ends to get Cockermouth’s first point, winning 21-15, 21-14.

In the other game, Cockermouth once again proved too strong for the home side, with the young pairing of Andrew Elliott/Josh Ashfield beating Marchon’s Yvonne Wilkinson/Becka Steven, 21-10, 21-14.

In the next change around of pairs, Bettinson, this time paired with Wilkinson, were edged out in three ends by Cockermouth’s Casson/Elliott, losing out 13-21, 22-20, 17-21.

Smith/Ashfield eventually proved too good for Ashburner/Steven, winning 21-15, 21-19.

The last two games were well contested.

Smith/Elliot teamed up to take on Ashburner/Wilkinson, with the away pair taking the first end 21-16 only for the lasses to fight back in the second, claiming it 21-13.

In the end the lads from Cockermouth were too good winning the third end 21-9 to make it 5-0 overall.

In the final game Casson/Ashfield claimed the first end against Bettinson/Steven, 21-14 but the lasses fought back in the second end, only to narrowly lose out 22-24.

It meant that Cockermouth had taken the match 6-0.

Marchon 3 entertained Cockermouth in the Doubles League, which was the away side’s second trip to St Bees in four days.

Marchon fielded three new members in their first match for them while Cockermouth were unchanged after their previous visit to St. Bees.

The first set of games went in favour of the away side, with Dan Casson/Andy Smith proving too strong for Marchon’s Chester Lam/Snehith Palagani, winning 21-14, 21-12.

The other game saw Marchon’s Oscar Ayress playing with Ryan Chang going down 21-11, 21-19 against the two youngsters, Josh Ashfield/Andrew Elliott.

Marchon fought back a bit in the change round games, with Lam, this time partnering Ayress for the home side, narrowly losing out in three ends, 17-21, 21-17, 13-21 against Cockermouth’s Casson/Ashfield.

The other game of this set was Smith/Elliot proving too strong for the home side, winning 21-14, 21-12 against Palagani/Chang.

In the remaining two games, Marchon went down hard in the first game, with Lam/Chang losing out 2-21, 12-21 to Casson/Elliott.

However in the last game Marchon pounced on the chance of taking a game and out-doing their second team from the week before.

The home pair of Palagani/Ayress manged to hold their nerve in two ends to overcome Smith/Ashfield to claim Marchon’s first and only game of the match, 21-17, 22-20.

Cockermouth travelled home on the back of a 5-1 win.

In the Mixed 2 League Seascale 2 were looking to bounce back after their narrow 4-2 defeat at the hands of Marchon 2 the week previous.

They didn’t disappoint but had to work hard for it against a hungry Marchon 3 team.

First up were James O’Hanlon/Sue Alderson in a battle with Matthew Branthwaite/Katie Ritchie, and the home pair won 21-18.

The away side took the second game, also by 21-18, to set-up a third end.

In it the home side proved too strong, coming out winners 21-10 and getting their first point on the board.

The other game of the first round saw the stalwarts for Seascale, John Alderson/Pam Douglas take the first end comfortably 21-13, but they had to battle hard and hold their nerve in the second to scrap for a 24-22 victory against the away pair of Chester Lam/Issy Ritchie.

In the next round of games, O’Hanlon/Alderson proved too strong, winning convincingly 21-10, 21-11 against the Marchon paid of Lam/I. Ritchie.

The other game saw a slightly harder task for Alderson/Douglas, up against Branthwaite/K. Ritchie, where the away side battled hard, before the experience of the hosts came out on top, winning 21-17, 21-19 to take a 4-0 lead going into the changeover games.

First up, husband and wife combo, Mr and Mrs Alderson fired on all cylinders and won 21-11, 21-19 against Lam/K. Ritchie, to give Seascale a 5-0 lead.

The last game proved to be a good three ender – O’Hanlon, this time playing with Douglas, going for a clean sweep, up against Branthwaite/I Ritchie.

It was the away side who started the better, taking the first end 21-15.

However, the home side fought back in the second, claiming it 21-17 and looking to keep their white wash alive.

In the final end the home side went ahead, but the away pair managed to pull it back and claim Marchon’s first point of the match, by winning 21-17, to leave Seascale victorious 5-1.
