Workington Reds picked up another three points on the road – a 2-1 win at Trafford was their seventh in 11 away games.
Manager Danny Grainger announced himself well satisfied with the win, which kept Reds third in the NPL West table.
He said: “Trafford are a good side, better than their League position indicates and they made us work.
“But I was particularly pleased with how we started the game and in the first 20 minutes I thought we worked the ball really well.
“I thought we could have been further clear than 1-0 at half-time and the second goal gave us a bit of breathing space.
“It came from something we’ve been working on and Scott Allison put it away superbly.
“They pulled one back late on but I thought we saw it through comfortably. Again it was something we had talked about after last week’s late goal conceded to cost us two points.”
Reds in fact got off to a flier with a goal on six minutes from Dav Symington.
Allison and Brad Hubbold had linked well and Symington cut in to let one go in typical fashion and it found a resting place in the bottom corner.
Symington sent another screamer just past the post and Allison fired just over as Workington continued to force the pace.
Trafford did have a good chance themselves just before the interval but from a good position at the near post Mike Burke put his effort wide.
The crucial second goal came on 76 minutes when Alloison got on the end of a flick from Conor Tinnion and in a trademark finish lifted over the keeper into the net.
But there was potentially a nervous finish for the Reds after 85 minutes when Elliot Goldthorp went through to fire past Jim Atkinson.
Reds weren’t going to let the game slip for a second successive and saw out the rest of the time comfortably.
Grainger will rely on the same squad on Tuesday night when Carlisle United visit Borough Park (7-45pm ko) for a quarter final tie in the Fred Conway County Cup.
“We haven’t a game on Saturday so it’s going to be a good opportunity for a good work-out against what I’m sure will be a strong Carlisle side.
“It’s a competition we want to do well in and I’m sure it’s going to be a good contest,” said Grainger, a former Carlisle United captain.
