Flimby Social delivered the shock of the season so far in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
They came from behind to win 3-2 at current Division One champions Workington Conservative Club.
The Division Two side didn’t have the best of starts however as victories for Julian Plaza and Richard McCarthy put the Cons side 2-0.
At this point Flimby were fearing the worst, but the remarkable turnaround started as Richard Kirkham produced a superb performance to defeat former county champion Alan Moore to pull one back.
If Flimby were to have any chance of winning a calm head was required in the fourth frame and with a solid display it was Paul Vickers who dragged his side back level at 2-2.
The deciding frame of a match often starts with caution, however a break of 46 almost from the off ensured Kevin Kirkham completed an exceptional turnaround as Flimby ran out deserving match winners.
Flimby increase their lead at the top of Division Two and now sit on 27 points with Cons dropping to fourth in Division One on 25 points.
Division One league leaders Workington Golf Club A powered their way through Division Two’s Maryport Social as a 5-0 away win made sure their lead at the top was extended to seven points.
A re-spotted black ball win for Phil Sorfleet may have looked a bit shaky but it was enough to start the ball rolling as Bryan Walker and Ryan Ismay added to this in convincing fashion to put the Golf Club A 3-0 up.
In the next a 40 break from Mark Brasted was enough to make it 4-0 and as Mark Cowen cantered to a victory in the last the whitewash was complete.
Workington Veterans Club delivered a high quality performance and in limiting Division Two’s Workington Golf Club to less than 60 points in total they romped to a 5-0 away victory.
Mark Tunstall took the first frame convincingly to set the match tone and as Mark Tatton was equally as potent in frame two a 2-0 lead was evident. A third frame victory for the Vets outfit soon made it 3-0 and with Paul Smith out-foxing his opponent in frame four a 4-0 scoreline presented itself.
The final frame of the match proved to be the quickest frame of the evening as with few visits Kevin Basnett was well out of reach as the Vets captain wrapped up the whitewash.
The Vets side move up to second in Division One on 27 points and the Golf Club B remain bottom of Division Two on seven points.
Finally, Division One’s United Club came from 2-1 behind to defeat Division Two’s Station Road Club in another battle between two Workington sides.
A Tom Thompson victory opened the match as Station Road Club went 1-0 up. However back came the United Club with a Clive Lister win in frame two for 1-1.
Frame three saw John Teasdale put Station Road 2-1 in front but with a win on the last couple of balls United Club captain Andrew Mitchelhill made sure the match went to a decider.
The final frame produced the usual tactical affair but it was Peter O’Hagan who was up to the task as he guided the United Club over the line for a 3-2 match victory in a fascinating encounter.
The United Club move up to third in Division One on 23 points while Station Road move into second in Division Two on 16 points.
