Carlisle City went down again at home, beaten 1-0 by West Allotment Celtic in their latest Northern League Division One clash.
But manager Jim Nichols was happier with the performance after a hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat to Thornaby on Saturday.
He said: “There wasn’t a lot in it really, three or four chances to each side during the game which was a bit of a cagey affair.
“They are one of the in-form sides in league, up to fifth and this was their fifth straight win, but I didn’t think they caused us a lot of problems.
“I was a lot happier with our performance after Saturday and we aren’t too far away when we play like that. Unfortunately we just aren’t taking our chances at the moment.”
The game was settled in the 64th minute when Mikel Thompson drove then ball into the top corner from just outside the area.
Nichols added: “Really our big problem is being able to field a consistent side each week. I’ve not known anything like it over the last two-and-a-half months. We get one player back from injury and we lose another.
“Dan Kirkup was injured in the warm-up last night and had to drop out while Tyler Bowman had to pull out after his daughter was taken to hospital.
“It just seems to be one thing after another at the minute and I’m hoping that things will start to clear up quickly.
“We have a tough run of matches coming up starting at Guisborough on Saturday and then at Ashington next Tuesday.”
