Workington and District Sunday League champions Northside have suffered their first setback of the season.
They were held 3-3 by Maryport Athletic in a thrilling contest which could have gone either way.
Blue Bell’s narrow 3-2 win over Flimby Social means they are now level with Northside, albeit from having played two more games.
Northside, who landed the quadruple last season, lifting four trophies scored through Tommy Whitehead, Tony Berwick and Jamie Bramley.
But Athletic, who trail them by eight points in the League, earned a good point with Lewis Mattinson grabbing a hat-trick.
Blue Bell didn’t have it all their own way against Flimby before securing their 3-2 win.
Indeed it needed a penalty four minutes from the end from Carl Denver to give them their win. A draw would probably have been the fairest result.
Blue Bell had twice held the lead through Denvir and Greg Quayle but Flimby twice levelled through Scott Underwood and a Matthew Heaney penalty before the dramatic spot kick decider.
It was even tighter in the game between Sun Inn Athletic and Rangers which finished 2-2.
Brad Williamson scored both for the Athletic with Gareth Brunton and Owen Adair ensuring Rangers left with a share of the spoils.
The clearest winning margin in the four games was Dearham Commercial’s 5-2 win over Deer Orchard.
Steve Stoddart (2), Brett McMillan, Jack Brown and Atlee Skillen were on target for Dearham with Milo Cooke and Luke Lewis responding for Orchard.
Bottom-of-the-table Seaton Rangers were beaten 3-0 at Sun Inn for whom Ewan Trestianu (2) and Matty Prior were on target.
League games scheduled for this week are: Deer Orchard v Sun Inn Athletic; Maryport Athletic v Sun Inn; Rangers v Dearham Commercial; Senhouse Street v Salterbeck.
