Bomb disposal experts have investigated potential ordnance found in Barrow and said there is no threat.
The item was found at the Marina Village site and workers called in police as they thought it could be a bomb.
Road closures were put in place on Salthouse Road, from School Street to Foundry Street, and Lumley Street as a precaution and people were evacuated.
Police predicted the roads would be closed for several hours.
Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and Barrow Borough Council were also in attendance as a precaution and to support the explosive ordnance disposal team.
However, following an assessment by the team, the object was confirmed as not being an ordnance.
The cordons in place have now been lifted and people asked to evacuate as a precaution can now return to their properties.
