A West Cumbria man has been told he must sign the sex offenders’ register with immediate effect after he admitted having scores of images showing the abuse of children.
Forty-year-old Steven Hannay pleaded guilty to a total of seven charges when he appeared in front of a judge at Carlisle Crown Court.
Three of these involve the making of indecent photographs of children on or before February 17 last year. They include 73 images classed in category A — the most serious — along with 46 category B pictures and 216 in class C.
Two more involve making indecent images of children — two category A and one category C — between October 26 and November 3 last year.
Hannay had also admitted possession of a prohibited image of a child. And a seventh offence involved obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of h their duty at Cockermouth on January 31 this year.
Judge Richard Archer adjourned the case for preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report. Hannay, of Devonshire Street, Workington, was bailed in the meantime and is due to receive his punishment at the crown court on March 29.
He must sign the sex offenders’ register with immediate effect as part of strict notification requirements, and was informed that all sentencing options — including immediately custody — would be open to the court when he returns later this month.
