An investigation into the cause of a major blaze at a Maryport bakery is continuing.
Fire crews were called to The Bakehouse on Senhouse Street in the early hours of February 15 after a blaze took hold of the property.
The fire had spread to all four storeys of the terraced building and 10 fire crews, specialist fire vehicles, Cumbria police, the ambulance service, United Utilities and Allerdale council officers were at the scene. The road was closed while the blaze was brought under control.
The building had to be demolished overnight and Workington-based specialists Stobbarts Ltd were brought in to carry out the work. The road remained closed until February 20.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and Cumbria police said they had launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
A statement released today, March 10, said: “We are continuing the investigation to identify the cause of the fire which took place at The Bakehouse in Maryport.
“Work to ensure the building is structurally sound is progressing under the management of Allerdale Borough Council.
“The fire scene investigation will not progress until such time that the building is declared safe to enter.
“An investigation of this length and nature is normal for the size and scale of this incident.”
