A plan to issue a team of council officers with body-worn cameras has been given the green light.
The devices are to provide a means of clamping down on the abuse that Barrow Borough Council’s Safe and Strong enforcement team is ‘frequently’ subjected to.
The body cams will also provide solid evidence to help the local authority tackle problems such as litter and with looking into complaints made by members of the public.
The work of the eight-strong group of Safe and Strong officers includes dealing with antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping.
The team is also to be given radios and made-to-measure body armour.
The measures are among those being covered by more than £10,500 from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund.
The use – set to take place this month – of radios and body-worn cameras by Safe and Strong officers was given the thumbs up by a meeting of the borough council’s executive committee.
