
Workington Golf Club A are the new L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One winners thanks to a 3-2 home win over Workington’s United Club.
Even though there is still one week of the domestic season to go the Golf Club A side cannot be overtaken as they stand 10 points clear at the top of the table.
The Golf Club A’s title-claiming match victory started in the best possible way as Ryan Ismay won a close contest to make it 1-0.
Frame two delivered by yet another superb performance from Bryan Walker, as in his best season yet the golf club cueist not only made it 2-0 but also guaranteed third place in the leading player averages.
The third frame had a similar leading player theme to it as a 58 break from the newly crowned county doubles champion, Peter O’Hagan, not only secured the frame but also made sure he finished as the Division’s top performer.
At 2-1 to the golf club, Phil Sorfleet made sure of the match win for 3-1 with another solid display. He too finishing highly placed in the averages at second.
The final line-up of the match gave the United Club some consolation as Andrew Mitchelhill not only took the frame but also put his side in an excellent position with a second place finish in the table on their mind. Golf club A sit on 57 points with the United Club second on 47 points.
Division Two’s Station Road Club put one over on their fellow townies as they defeated Division One’s Workington Veterans Club 4-1 away to relegate them to the Second Division.
A hard-fought win for Vets captain Kevin Basnett in the first frame looked to be just the start his side needed however this was a good at it got for the TKO plate finalists.
Frame two saw Tom Thompson move through the gears for 1-1 and as Mark Robertson took advantage of his opponents terrible run of the ball it was soon 2-1 to Station Road.
Another convincing victory, this time from super sub Andrew Henderson, made it 3-1 and with Mike Walker closing the match out in style the Division Two runners-up finished much the happier of the two sides.
Station Road are on a Division Two total of 42 points with the Vets on a Division One relegation total of 40 points.
Division Two champions Flimby Social made light work of their fixture against fellow second tier opposition Whitehaven’s Rack Shack with a 4-1 home win.
Convincing victories by the Kirkhams, Kevin and father Richard put the champions 2-0 up. An equally impressive performance from team mate Shane Evitts ensured Flimby enjoyed an unassailable 3-0 lead.
However, with a victory in the nex,t Wayne Sinclair made sure the Rack Shack nicked a point. The last frame saw the Whitehaven side unable to field a player hence Flimby captain Geoff Banton wrapped it up for a 4-1 Flimby scoreline.
Flimby top Division Two on 46 points with the Rack Shack fourth on 27 points.
Finally, Maryport Social delivered one of their most runaway performances of the season with a 4-1 win at home to Workington Golf Club B.
Victories for Gary Miller and Ben Scott got Maryport off to the best possible start at 2-0. Andrew Sharp and Andrew Scott both played brilliantly to further extend the Maryport Social match lead to 4-0.
However it was Andrew Hamilton who prevented the whitewash with a close victory in the last. Maryport are third in Division Two on 26 points with Workington Golf Club B two places behind on 14 points.
