Sam Smith is close to a return for Workington Reds having completed his four-match suspension for a second sending-off.
But he was able to play in two County Cup-ties during his NPL West ban and picked up a knee injury.
Manager Danny Grainger said: “He’s a big player for us and we are delighted his suspension has been completed. But we don’t want to bring him back too soon after his knee injury and will make sure he’s ready before resuming.
“So we will wait and see at Widnes tomorrow, and that will be the same with skipper Conor Tinnion. He’s got an issue and heavy grounds don’t help so I will see how he’s come through this week before deciding on whether he plays.”
Ceiran Casson, however, will be back in the squad after sitting out the last few games with the recurrence of an old injury.
Grainger added: “Everyone is keen to play, I know that, and lads want to be in the starting line-up not just the squad so the competition is good as we aim to build the momentum into and through the play-offs.
“There are some big games ahead, starting at Widnes tomorrow as they are fighting for their lives and will battle for every ball. We have to go there and impose ourselves on them.
“We dominated the game at Colne for 91 minutes on Tuesday. It was a perfect performance until they scored two late goals but we were more comfortable than 3-2 suggests. At the end of the day the three points were all that mattered but I was delighted with the way we had played.”
