L&L Property Contractors Snooker League top four play-off semi-finals have taken place with Workington Golf Club A and Flimby Social making their respective Division One and Division Two finals in style.
In Division One league champions Workington Golf Club A made short work of Workington Veterans Club with a 3-1 victory.
However in the other semi-final a much closer contest saw Workington’s United Club needing a final frame decider to defeat Workington Conservative Club 3-2 to make the April 12 final.
Division Two saw a similar result for the champions as they defeated fourth placed Maryport Social 3-0 but their final opponents had a tricker path as a decider was required for Workington’s Station Road Club in beating Whitehaven’s Rack Shack 3-2.
The first of the Division One semis saw Workington Golf Club A’s Bryan Walker open up with a win but with Vets captain Kevin Basnett taking the second parity was achieved.
At 1-1 Phil Sorfleet started well and even though he was pegged back the Golf Club A cueist still managed to take the frame to put his team 2-1 up.
In what turned out to be the final frame of the match Mark Brasted showed no signs of any semi-final nerves and with some excellent potting he took his team through to the final in superb style.

In the other Division One semi-final United Club’s Dave Chapman put in a brilliant performance to put his team in front at 1-0 but with Richard McCarthy also in brilliant form he pulled it back for the Cons at 1-1.
A 38 break by Division One player of the season Peter O’Hagan was enough to make it 2-1 to the United Club but back came the Cons as Alan Moore produced a thumping win for 2-2.
The decider needed a cool head if a top 4 final place was to become a reality and with a break of 38 Andrew Mitchelhill did just that to guide his team through to a match up against the league champions.
The Division Two semi-final between champions Flimby Social and Maryport Social started with an evenly fought frame but with a stronger finish it was Shane Evitts who put the favourites in front at 1-0.
Frame two proved to be a more one-sided affair as Michael ‘Sid’ Walker produced some of his singles KO form to put Flimby on the brink at 2-0.
In what ended up being the last frame of the match Sal Cakmak potted well and with little resistance coming his way the Flimby cueist delivered the win to put his team through to next week’s final.
Finally, the remaining semi-final in Division Two began with Station Road’s Tom Thompson getting his side off to a 1-0 lead but with Chris McKelvey on top of his game the Rack Shack player made it 1-1.
A close third frame produced an Andy Moore win to put the Rack Shack 2-1 up but back came Station Road with a high scoring Chris Hunter victory to take the match into a fifth frame decider.
As the final frame progressed Darren Lawson got stronger as each pot went in and with what turned out to be a relatively straightforward win the Station Road stalwart kept their play-off dreams alive.
