Workington made progress in the ECB National Club Cup with a home win against Cherry Tree of Blackburn.
Played as a 40-overs a side knockout competition Workington triumphed by 11 runs at the Valentine Ground.
Cherry Tree won the toss and invited their hosts to bat first and Workington responded with 176-5.
This was mainly due to an excellent 67 off 82 balls from Kristian Moffat while Callum Sutton weighed in with 23.
The Cherry Tree response got off to a flier with a superb 81 off 76 deliveries from their South African amateur Neil Timmers which kept them in the game.
When he was out at 137-4 to a caught and bowled by Dave Pearce the innings rather petered out and they finished on 165-7.
Lewis Hull took the first three wickets for Workington and finished with 4-19 while Dan McDermott took 1-17 off six, bowling a particularly tight spell at the end which put a huge brake on the Cherry Tree chase.
Workington will now travel to St. Anne’s, the first club of Freddie Flintoff’s career, in the next round.
