
There were some emphatic victories in the latest round of games in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL.
One of the closest game was at Ellenborough where the home A team went down 46-22 to visitors Cockermouth Titans.
At half-time the Titans had established a 26-14 lead and built on that during a very good game which was played in the right spirit.
Leam Wild scored the first try of the game for Cockermouth after 12 minutes and Regan Tinnion added the conversion.
Elbra came back with an unconverted try from Kevin Hoban before Rob Scott got over for Titans’ second touchdown.
On 26 minutes Elbra pulled level at 10-10 when Brett Stevenson made the Cockermouth line and he also added the extras.
Cockermouth’s man of the match Alex Barton and Elbra’s Dan Penman exchanged tries so after 32 minutes it was still all level.
But Cockermouth enjoyed a productive last four minutes with tries from Barton and Tinnion which were both converted by Lewis Bell.
Barton went over again seven minutes into the second-half and Bell converted before Matty Bell pulled back four points for the home side with an unconverted try.
The sides exchanged tries again with Lewis Bell for Cockermouth and Hoban for Ellenborough before the Titans produced another big finish to the half with tries from Scott and Tinnion, one converted by Lewis Bell.
Jonty Hill was named as man of the match for Ellenborough.
The game at Lowca was even closer with Egremont A just edging out their hosts 20-14.
Dean Haigh (2) and Mitchell Todd were the try scorers for Lowca, with one conversion by Jamie Scott while Sam Williams, Jack Pae, Dillon Scott and Luke Pae went over for Egremont A.
Man of the match Kaiden Block kicked two goals with Keith Campbell named man of the match for Lowca.
Biggest winners of the week-end were champions Distington who were too strong for Glasson Rangers, chalking up a 58-0 victory.
They were well on their way to the win with a 36-0 lead at half-time and they finished with ten tries, nine of which were converted by Steve Clarke.
The tries were scored by Steve Conway (1), Aaron Conall (2), Jack Speight, Jack Penrice, Jack Worthington, Scott Rooke, Jamie Friel and Clarke.
Distington’s main rivals this season are going to be Wath Brow A who were 50-6 winners at Maryport.
Maryport were still in contention at half-time when the Hornets were 16-0 to the good but by the hour that had grown to 38-0.
It was at that point that Josh Patterson scored Maryport’s points with a try which he converted.
The Brow had scored in the first minute when Evan Alick scored in the corner and Jenson Olstrum put over a touchline conversion. He went on to kick seven goals and picked up the Brow’s man of the match award.
Brad White (10) and Luke Spivey (27) were the other try scorers in the first-half.
A minute into the second-half Peter Caddy scored the Brow’s fourth try and three more followed in the third quarter from Jack Meagan, Jamie Devine and Caddy.
Patterson scored the Maryport try on 64 minutes but two more Wath Brow tries came before the end from Daley Stables and Devine.
Luke Baker was awarded the man of the match award for Maryport.
The Copeland derby went the way of Kells A by 46-8 up at Hensingham A.
The visitors had established a 20-8 lead by half-time courtesy of tries from Aaron Burns (15), Dan Grears (20), Burns (23) and Dan Starkie (33) with Burns popping over two conversions.
Hensingham had actually opened the scoring after only five minutes with a try from Kyran Lofthouse and Luca Hiddleston got the second two minutes before half-time.In the second half Kellas A did all the scoring, scoring tries from Dylan Telford, Starkie, Corey Chambers and Jamie Jennings before Burns completed his hat-trick.
