Dalton produced a fine performance to make progress in the ECB National Cup with an exciting win at St Helens Town.
Rain restricted the preliminary round tie and the hosts, with a revised target of 150 from 20 overs fell short at 140-7.
It was a great effort by the Cumbria League side and was built on two important knocks by top order batsmen.
Skipper Joe Braund Smith made 52 off 53 deliveries while Callum Leach hit 42 off 28 balls, which included three sixes and three fours.
They were helped by 12 wides among the 16 extras and the south Cumbrians finished on 134-5.
Rain had affected the game and St. Helens’ target became 150 off 20 overs, and it looked ominous when home opener Johnny Hine clubbed 58 off 32 deliveries including five fours and four sixes.
His opening partner Ryan Donnelly had contributed seven to a stand of 70 and then went on to make 32 not out.
But at the other end Dalton made inroads helped by a couple of run-outs by Keith Gilliland and the pressure in the end proved too much for the home side.
All five Dalton bowlers took a wicket apiece from their four overs with Gilliland doing best at 1-21.
Dalton face another trip away in the next round when they will travel to Chorley.
