Plans to build a new property on the edge of Grasmere have been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority.
The first floor of the new home would be larger than the ground floor and would sit atop a parking area.
The property would replace the existing house, Wren’s Nest, and is accessed by a private track and a public road that lead to the A591.
“It is felt that the form of the building would create an unashamedly contemporary, yet complimentary, addition within the wider area, which possesses buildings of varying architectural style,” says a planning statement submitted by Brown & Brown Architects.
“The replacement dwelling would be finished in local stone to the ground floor, with timber cladding to the first floor – traditional and in keeping materials in this location.”
The statement says applicants Dr J Kirby and Dr G Ashwell want to create a home that uses renewable energy sources and that could be largely heated by passive solar gain – harnessing the sun’s energy via the design of the property.
