Kendal Town marksman Tom Kilifin finished the season as top goal-scorer in the North West Counties Premier Division.
His goal that helped the Mintcakes to a 2-1 win at Ashton Athletic in their final game of the campaign took him to 33 for the season, one more than Ben Elliott of West Didsbury and Chorlton.
Club chairman Michael O’Neill said: “We are very proud of Tom’s achievement in scoring most goals in the League and we are looking forward to him adding many more to his total for us.”
Kilifin, who had previously played at Lancaster and Workington, bagged 24 League goals and another nine in Cup competitions.
His fellow forward Steve Yawson made the leading list of scorers with 18, made up of 12 in the League and six in Cup competitions.
Ryan Winder had put Kendal ahead at Ashton after 30 minutes with Kilifin notching eight minutes later.
The much-travelled Jow Mwasile, who counts Workington among his previous clubs, reduced the arrears after 42 minutes – and that’s the way it stayed throughout a goalless second-half.
It means Kendal finished 12th of 22 in their first season since relegation from the Northern Premier League West Division.
O’Neill said: “It was important to stabilise the club, both on and off the field, and I think we’ve been able to do that.
“We have a very good management team and a great group of players. I feel sure that if this squad had been with us from the start of the season we would have been challenging for a top five spot.
“There’s a lot of optimism about the place. We took about 50 fans away for the final game – all dressed in Hawaiian shirts – and the last three home attendances topped 350.
“We have the Westmorland County Cup final to look forward to on Saturday when we play Penrith reserves at home and it would be terrific to end the season with a trophy.
“Plans have already been laid for next season but we will take a short break and come back fully refreshed and ready to take the club forward again.”
