Workington Comets management are sweating over an injury to another of their young riders ahead of their press and practice next Saturday.
Ace Pijper had to be withdrawn last night after a heavy fall riding for Glashow Tigers against Berwick Bandits.
He had won the opening reserves race and finished third in his second outing before a fall in his third which meant he was excluded.
Pijper was then withdrawn from the meeting complaining of lower back pain and will be checked out at hospital today.
The Comets already have Luke Harrison sidelined with injury and have just signed-up Kelsey Dugard as a temporary replacement.
Meanwhile a former Workington rider Charles Wright was in great form for Redcar Bears last night as they beat Scunthorpe Scorpions 49-41.
Home skipper Wright scored a faultless 18-point maximum, with Danny King adding 10+2 including a vital 5-1 in Heat 13 to effectively seal the match. Ryan Douglas scored 10 for the Scorpions.
However the Scorpions secured their place in the BSN Series semi-finals with the aggregate score and Redcar could yet join them in the last four of the competition.
The Scorpions needed to score 41 points at the Ecco Arena to be mathematically certain of progression, and they did exactly that as the Bears won the meeting 49-41, coming from six points down after the visitors made a fast start to proceedings.
Comets number one Connor Bailey scored three points and a bonus from his four rides.
