Two Cumbrians were part of a successful senior England hockey side which won an important tournament in Holland.
Keith Richardson, of Carlisle, was vice captain and Jeff Jackson, of Windermere, were part of the successful England LX Over 70s team that played at the International Super Veterans Tournament in Tilburg.
Teams aged 60/65/70 and 75 were involved and the Over 70s played seven games before taking on the German National side in the final.
It finished 1-1 which meant it had to go to a penalty flick shootout which was the best of three and the two Cumbrians certainly stepped up to the plate!
Jackson stepped up and scored the first one and with Germany missing their first and both side’s scoring their second it was left to Richardson to try and seal the win.
He duly obliged by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to score the decisive goal (take note you England footballers).
With that one in the bag Keith and Jeff now head to Valencia in June for the European Cup.
