Playing at Tynefield Park, Penrith this week for the first time since 2019, Cumbria’s squad managed to play only their third T20 game together this season.
The Inter squad game meant it increased the players time in the middle by 50 per cent as a county group ahead of the opening one day knockout game on Monday.
Cumbria start the NCCA Trophy 50-overs competition away to Herefordshire on Monday.
In this mid-week squad game one or two injuries meant that not all the players who had played against Cheshire were present but the majority were and they played alongside, and against, over half a dozen teenagers from the County Development squad.
Both sides managed to score around seven and eight runs per over, with Marcus Stables getting Team A off to a fast start with 18 from 8 balls, whilst fellow opener Nathan Waterston retired out on 51 from 46 balls after a steady start of 11 from his first 17 balls. Matthew Sempill weighed in with 43 from 21 balls.
Team B’s response was led by Evan Williams (44 from 32 balls) with Sam Sharp hitting 35 from 22 balls. Wickets were shared between the bowlers with Nico Watt 2/17 from four overs and Josh Wills 2/20 again from four overs being the most succesful.
Altogether 12 sixes were struck with more than a few balls being lost.
For the record the scores were: Team A 164/6 (Waterston 51, Sempill 43) with Team B responding with 149/5 (Williams 44, Sharp 35) in their 20 overs.
Gary Pratt, the former Cumberland skipper, is among the players not available on Monday because of injury.
Nathan Waterston, however, is fit to return after breaking two ribs and is included in the side.
The team is: Michael Slack (Carlisle, capt), Matthew Sempill (Cockermouth), Sam Dutton (Furness), Nathan Waterston (Furness), Nico Watt (Carlisle), Marcus Stables (Nantwich), Ben Walkden (Newton le Willows), Sam Sharp (Cockermouth), Finlay Richardson (Kendal), Freddie Fallows (Kendal), Matthew Siddall (Cockermouth).
