A Sedbergh business is in the running for a prestigious national award.
The Black Bull Inn is shortlisted in the Pub and Bar category of the 2023 Catey Awards – an annual celebration of the best hospitality businesses, held this year at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday July 4.
The internationally renowned annual awards, now in their 40th year, are the biggest of their kind in the hospitality industry and are designed to recognise the latest emerging brands and the highest flyers in the sector.
Chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, over 100 judges met to discuss the nominees and produce their shortlist of finalists across 20 categories, which include Chef Award, Sustainable Business Award, Hotel of the Year, Education and Training Award, Wine and Spirit Ambassador Award, Best Marketing Campaign Award, as well as several special categories including the Lifetime Achievement Award and International Outstanding Achievement Award.
Black Bull co-owner Nina Matsunaga said: ‘’It’s the second year we’ve been successful in being shortlisted for a Catey in The Pub and Bar category.
“To even be in with a chance of winning this category is so special, because it recognises culinary flair and innovation, sound business practice, the highest levels of customer service, commitment to team development as well as involvement in the local community – all of which we pride ourselves on being totally committed to – so fingers crossed we can win through against some pretty stiff competition and bring the plaudits back to Cumbria.’’
