Another Cumbrian referee has earned a promotion from the Football Association.
Cumberland FA has announced that Carlisle-based referee, Dan Forbes, has been promoted by the FA to Level 4.
Dan’s promotion means that he will operate as a referee at Step 5/6 and as an assistant referee at Step 3/4 as of the 2023/24 season.
Cumberland FA’s referee development officer, Scott Taylor said: “I’m delighted for Dan, as this is now the start of a journey that will hopefully take him into the professional game in the coming seasons.
“Getting to this level isn’t easy, as you have to successfully navigate your way through grassroots football and excel on the parks. That means managing Sunday and Saturday games of open-age football and ensuring the Laws of the Game are applied consistently.
“Dan has also passed an exam and fitness test to gain this fully-deserved FA promotion to Level 4.
“We wish Dan well for the new season, and look forward to seeing future promotions as he sets his sights on the National League System.”
Several referees from the county have earned promotion this season, topped a few days ago with the news that John Mulligan has been upgraded to Level 2a (Step 1 referee), and so will operate as a referee in the Vanarama National League from 2023/24.
In addition, John will also referee Under-21 teams at elite level in Premier League 2, as well as acting as a fourth official for both EFL League One and League Two.
