Back to basics for hounds at Kirklands

Denis Pear and Jackie Gill with Miterdale Duchess

After the excitement of the weekend’s Bitch Produce bonanza it was back to basics for the HTA last night at Kirkland.

There were three races and the seniors set them off with a trail in which there were 10 runners.

As they showed on the finish it was Miterdale Duchess who hadn’t run at the weekend who came with a good lead to win easily for Denis Pear and Jackie Gill. This win  puts her four points behind the current Championship leader Winterfell.

Miterdale Honesty was a surprise second place for the Steele’s from Low Place with Glenis and Raymond Farren’s Huntsman’s Rally continuing to ticket regularly in third place.

There was a good turn-out of pups with 19 being slipped and a number of the current title contenders in the field.

Silver Dream and Mel were joint favourites and as they came onto the finish it was a good race with three hounds having a slight advantage.

When they showed Silver Dream was only third but as they approached the line her finishing ability took her half a length clear to take the win with the much-improved Artist in second place and Maverick finishing in third place.

Mel wasn’t far behind in fourth place but this win takes Silver Dream to second place in the puppy championship two points behind her brother Rodney Raider.

The final race of the night was the Open Restricted trail where Malcolm and Ann Holmes’ Sir Robert won easily. He hadn’t run over the weekend at the Bitch Produce meeting and had been rested so was probably one of the fresher hounds running.

Tony, Marlene, Conner and Carter Irving’s Bob finished in second place with Christopher Henderson’s Shine On coming home in third place.

Action moves to Cleamire on Wednesday for the final of the three meetings there. First slip is at 6pm on a four-card meeting.
