A daring dog decided it didn’t need to be rescued after venturing down a steep slope and getting stuck.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team received a call from Cumbria Police at 12.30 today from a member of staff at Low Briery Holiday Park.
She had noticed a cocker spaniel stuck on the steep river bank opposite the park and the owner trying to scramble down and retrieve the animal.
Rather than the owner place themselves at risk, the member of staff thought it would be safer to get mountain rescue involved.
A crew was quickly on the scene and one of the dog handlers was lowered down.
But the team said that the cocker spaniel was having none of it – and instead, was going to be its own hero. Just before contact was made with the dog, it decided on a self-rescue by scrambling up to the top to its relieved owner.
The incident lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
