
Lowca came within four minutes of holding Wath Brow A in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL.
It was 10-10 when Jenson Olstrum struck with a try and conversion to snatch a 16-10 victory.
They had led 6-0 at half-time after Jack Casey had opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a try which Olstrum converted.
The Hornets increased their lead after 54 minutes with an unconverted try from one of their Under-16s players Thomas Chambers.
Then two tries in the space of five minutes from Sean Gill (62) and Mitchell Todd (67), the second converted by Jamie Scott, pulled Lowca level.
It would have been a good point for the visitors but Olstrum popped up with the winning try and conversion.
Another Wath Brow youngster Devan Sharp was awarded their man of the match with Emmerson Allen nominated for the Lowca award.
Distington stayed ahead, though, in the race for the title as the champions won 36-10 at Hensingham.
They had scored three first-half tries, all unconverted, to lead 12-0 at the break with Aaron O’Donnell, Jack Penrice and Gavin Martin getting the touchdowns.
By the 53rd minute Distington had scored two more tries, from Martin and Harry Riley, but this time they were converted by Steve Clarke.
Hensingham staged a mini fight-back with tries in the 57th and 67th minutes from Aiden Pirie and Scott Egan, the first converted by Ben Pearce.
However two tries in the last nine minutes from Riley and Robbie Worthington clinched it for Distington with Clarke converting both.
Cockermouth were 32-12 winners at Egremont A as they scored 16 points in each half to stay in control.
The Titans tries were scored by Alex Barton (2), Dan Craghill, Lewis Bancroft and Frazer Murray with man of the match Regan Tinnion landing four goals.
The Egremont triers were scored by Luke Pae and Anas Alsebaei, both converted by Lee Rodgers. Kaiden Block was their man of the match.
Kells A were comfortable 58-18 winners against Glasson Rangers, who would be disappointed not to get a lot closer to their hosts.
It was virtually all over at half-time as the Copeland side enjoyed a 32-12 lead and it got worse for Glasson in the second-half.
Although Kells went in front after five minutes with the first of their 11 tries, scored by Ashton Sice and converted by Dan Starkie the visitors were level five minutes later with a try and conversion from their eventual man of the match Luke Johnson.
But then three tries in the space of six minutes turned the game Kells’ way. Eventual man of the match Jamie Jennings scored two of them and in between Starkie nipped over. He had already converted the first of Jennings’ touchdowns.
Glasson gave themselves some hope on 32 minutes with a try from Matt Burns, converted by Johnson but Jennings’ hat-trick try and a 38th minute touchdown for veteran Paul Cullnean, converted by Starkie took Kells into a 32-12 lead at thye break.
It got worse for Glasson in the second-half as Kells roared past the fifty point mark by the 65th minute with tries from Dan Griers (2), Sice and Lewis McCartney. Starkie converted two of them.
To their credit Glasson kept going and on 69 minutes Dean Jones went over for their third try, converted by Johnson.
But Kells had the last word on 74 minutes with the eleventh try for Kieran Halcrow and a seventh conversion for Starkie.
Maryport had been pipped at the post by Cockermouth in last week’s Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup, beaten by the golden point after extra time.
Well they responded well by winning 36-6 at Ellenborough A in a town derby game.
Kian Dempsey scored Ellenborough’s only try in the17th minute of the first-half, converted by Rocco Okesene, but those were to be their only points.
Maryport scored 18 in each half with Chris Ivison leading the way with a hat-trick of tries and was joined on the score-sheet by Luke Cremmins, Steven Stoddart, Luke Baker and Scott Atherton.
Blake Miller landed three conversions and Stoddart put over one.
Man of the Match for Maryport was Joel Baker with Charlie Scott picking-up the award for Ellenborough A.
