Penrith produced an outstanding performance to open their account in the Northern League First Division last night.
The Bonny Blues stunned Tow Law on their home patch to take back the three points from an impressive 5-1 victory.
Manager Darren Edmondson thought the first half probably represented the best performance since he arrived at the club last season – and said that was entirely down to the players.
“We just asked them to carry on the intensity they had shown in the second-half at Whitley Bay on Saturday and they did – and more.
“Their movement, work-rate on and off the ball, and general play were all you could wish for. They are a young group of players and are growing in confidence, but what we look for is consistency so hopefully this can be a catalyst towards that target.
“We were outstanding in the first-half and were two-up inside eight minutes, which is the kind of start you dream of in an away fixture.”
Although Tow Law did peg one back Penrith scored twice again before half-time and added one more in the second-half.
The first goal after only three minutes was one that looked as though might have been considered an own goal but Penrith’s Luke Hunter has officially been credited with the final touch.
Luke Brown doubled the lead before Jack Evans pulled one back on 19 minutes. Ronan Irving then notched a third for Penrith after 25 minutes and Alfie Brunskill grabbed the fourth on the stroke of half-time.
Robbie Hebson notched the fifth goal after 68 minutes and Penrith’s season was firmly up and running.
They are back in action on Saturday at Carlisle City’s Gillford Park ground when they entertain Boro Rangers in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.
