Top match in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL proved to be a cracker with Wath Brow A beating Cockermouth Titans 18-10.
It was a thoroughly entertain game played between two very evenly matched sides.
Wath Brow started with some very rewarding attacking play, which caught out the Titans and by half time they had established an 18-0 lead.
Liam Mattinson, Jack Casey and Kevin Christian went in for tries with conversions by Jenson Olstrum (2) and Devan Sharp.
However, in the second half Cockermouth showed that they were better than what they had shown previously and hit back with points of their own.
Seamus Hutton and Ryan Scott got over for tries with Scott adding a conversion.
They threatened to get even closer but Casey, who had been a constant thorn in their side, took control of things for Wath Brow, and led some determined charges up the field to give his side some vital field position.
On several occasions however the Hornets were stopped short of the line and were still eight points ahead at the final whistle.
The other two games were not as close with both Kells A and Distington running out comfortable winners.
Kells A beat Egremont A 46-16 at Gillfoot while Distington were 40-6 winners at Maryport.
In their game Kells had it won by half-time by which time they had swept into a 32-4 lead, so Egremont could feel encouraged that they only lost the second-half 14-12.
Casey Chambers (2), Ashton Sice (2), Jamie Jennings, Jordan Cunningham, Steven Nelson, Jake Parker and Nathan Clarke scored the Kells tries with Kieron Fleming landing six goals.
Egremont’s response came via tries by Sam Williams, Jack Pae and Lewis Parke. Kieran Block put over two conversions.
Champions Distington continued their march to the title after establishing an 18-0 lead at Maryport by half-time.
They finished with seven tries from Jaden Hewer (2), Matt Hewer, Jack Worthington, Scott Rooke, Lewis Whitehead and Jack Penrice. Steve Clarke landed six conversions.
The Maryport consolation try was scored by Joel Baker which was converted by Blake Miller.
The fourth scheduled game between Glasson and Hensingham A was called off because Hensingham could not raise a team. It will be awarded as a 24-0 to Glasson.
