Carlisle City made progress in the FA Vase with a 5-3 home win against Garstang.
They now face a tougher test in the second qualifying round on September 23 when they travel to fellow Northern League side Newcastle Benfield.
Manager Jim Nichols was extremely pleased with the performance and felt the score-line was not a fair reflection on the game.
“I think it was very comfortable and really it was only our individual errors which allowed them back into the game. Without those I couldn’t see them scoring.
“I thought we were excellent for much of the game, and with four or five players missing, it was very satisfying from a squad point of view.
“We were 4-0 up by the 53rd minute and in complete control. Then two individual errors gave them two goals but we came back immediately with a fifth and were well in command.
“With no mid-week game it gives us a chance to rest a few legs, get a few bodies back and be ready for Seaham Red Star at home on Saturday,” said Nichols.
Rob McCartney had given City a third minute lead which was doubled after 17 minutes by Jordan Palmer.
Sam Atkinson added the third four minutes into the second-half and it was 4-0 in the 53rd minute with a goal from Jack Dickinson.
Garstang were gifted goals to James Craig and Christian Bolton in the 55th and 58th minutes but Jay Kelly scored City’s fifth on the hour.
Although Joel Darley did score a third for Garstang in the 77th minute they never looked like causing City any further problems.
