Barrow Raiders are virtually assured of Championship rugby again next season after a 32-14 home win against Swinton Lions.
The victory opened up a three-point lead over Swinton with two games to play and on Saturday the Raiders travel to a Newcastle side who are already relegated.
Swinton entertain Whitehaven next Sunday and finish their campaign on Sunday, September 24 at Halifax.
Keighley, level on points with Whitehaven two ahead of Swinton, play Halifax at home and also have to travel to London for their final game. Whitehaven host Toulouse in their last fixture.
Swinton had taken the lead with a 12th minute penalty from Dan Abram but two minutes later Barrow scored the opening try. Some hesitant defending dealing with a kick to the corner allowed Luke Broadbent to nip in and touchdown. Ryan Shaw converted.
The Lions were reduced to 12 men after 27 minutes when George Roby was sent to the bin for a tip tackle on Jack Billington.
Within two minutes Barrow had scored a second try. Swinton were short of numbers on the right and Jarrod Sammut sent Keanan Brand charging over for his first Barrow score which Shaw goaled.
Two minutes before the break a classy handling move along the line ended with Andrew Bulman scoring an unconverted try in the corner for a 16-2 half-time lead.
Nine minutes into the second-half a great break by Luke Cresswell paved the way for a try in the corner by Shaw and he added the extras himself.
Barrow had been watertight in defence but on 53 minutes some slack marking allowed Abram to score out wide and he added the extras.
When Swinton fumbled the ball over the line on 63 minutes Brand took advantage to touchdown and four minutes later Ryan Johnston’s Crossfield kick was collected by Bulman who set-up Broadbent for his second try. Shaw converted.
Five minutes from time Gavin Bennison scored a try for Swinton which Abram converted – but they weren’t going to get near the Raiders.
