A driver who was stopped on the M6 because his car had a defective brake light has been jailed after a search by police found 2kg of cocaine and £4,300 in cash.
Gary Redford, 37, was stopped by police on the M6 southbound in September last year when they noticed his car was in a poor condition and had a defective central brake light.
Due to his demeanour – which officers described as nervous – they searched the vehicle and found the drugs and cash.
A man stopped on the M6 has been jailed for four years eight months for possession with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.
Garry Redford, 37, of South Cross Street, Bury, was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court.
Detective Constable Elinor Murray said “We proactively work to identify and challenge anyone suspected of being involved in drug supply in the county.
“Redford’s demeanour in the back of the police vehicle once stopped by officers suggested he was nervous.
“He also couldn’t provide specific details on where he had been in Carlisle, resulting in officers conducting a search of the vehicle locating the cash and cocaine.
“Our message to offenders is that we will be swift in going after those who harm our communities by committing crime.”
