Carlisle United and Windscale United are the latest two sides through to the quarter finals of the Fred Conway County Cup.
Both won 4-1 last night against the respective opposition of Aspatria and Mirehouse.
United were shocked at Bower Park when County League side Aspatria took the lead on 16 minutes through Kieran McLuskey.
It took until the 42nd minute for Carlisle to draw level when Josh O’Brien, currently on a work experience loan with Workington Reds, scored the equaliser.
United started to prosper in the second-half and won comfortably in the end as substitute Dan Hopper (2) and Freddie O’Donaghue scored further goals.
In their tie Windscale had a goal chalked off as early as the 2nd minute, the assistant referee’s flag ruling the move to be offside.
The opening goal came in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot. Following a quick break from midfield, Matt Metcalf was brought down in the penalty area, Will Rooke making no mistake from the spot.
The Atoms doubled their advantage five minutes later in fortuitous circumstances. A corner kick delivered by Lewis White evaded everyone, dipping just under the crossbar and into the Mirehouse goal.
The visitors continued to battle hard with Windscale taking a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
Lewis Jolly increased the Atoms lead early in the second period. Picking up the ball wide on the right, he made a run across the edge of the penalty area, firing a low drive into the bottom corner.
The Atoms fourth goal came with 20 minutes left to play. Will Rooke found Ray Sempill with a great cross to the far post and he gratefully headed home.
Mirehouse were not to be outdone with Kyle Bayliff cracking home the most spectacular goal of the night. Picking up the ball on the right, he looked up and fired in a stunning effort from 25 yards giving Lee Jolly no chance to save.
It was a nice consolation for a hard-working Mirehouse side who never gave up.
