Workington Zebras registered their first victory since mid-September to finally end their losing run by beating Windermere 40-12 at The Ellis in Counties 1 Cumbria.
Despite the wet and windy conditions, Workington managed to deliver six tries with Rob Scott turning in a man of the match performance, adding a couple to make it nine for the season so far
The other Zebras tries came from Rhys Burr, Scott Faulkner, Pete Fearon and Devlin Clarke as well as five conversions from John McCrickerd.
The victory lifts Workington up to 11th in Cumbria League and after a week’s break, they will hope to build on this when they travel to play Keswick 2nds on December 2.
Injuries in the Keswick club had depleted numbers so their second team game at Hawcoat Park wasn’t played and went down as a home walkover.
Meanwhile leaders Carlisle returned to winning form after their setback against Wigton, by travelling to Aspatria 2nds and returning with a 48-7 victory to stay out in front.
Best game of the weekend was at Egremont – a Copeland derby – in which the home side drew 23-23 with neighbours Whitehaven.
There was a tight game at Millom where the home side just went down 17-12 to visitors Penrith 2nds.
