It hasn’t been the most auspicious starts to a season for Deer Orchard but they have been showing signs of improvement.

That was acknowledged by West Cumberland Sunday League leaders Parkside after their hard-earned 4-2 win at Wakefield Road.

Sticking with some younger players after blooding them earlier appears to be paying off for the league’s oldest member club.

Glen Meagan was the star of the show for Parkside, holding the ball up brilliantly, working hard throughout and capping it all off with a fantastic finish.

The other Parkside goals were scored by Jay Weatherill, Darren Little and Andrew Bulman.

Luke Graham and Kyran Bertram made sure Orchard stayed in the contest.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division the tightest game saw Bluebell draw 2-2 with FC Cosmos.

Greg Quayle scored both for the Workington side with Lewis Park and Kyle Bayliff responding for Cosmos.

Northside stayed in hot pursuit as they won 5-0 at Lowca Pirates.

Harry Watson (2), Jamie Bramley, Cain Pears and Jack Nixon scored for Northside.

Moresby Rangers were the most convincing winners in the Premier Division with a 6-0 success over Thornhill.

It was 5-0 at half-time so the Division’s bottom side can take some heart from their second half performance.

James Bell (2), Callum Oswald (2), Jamie Martin and Thomas Houghton scored the Moresby goals.

There were some tight games in Division One with a draw and two victories by the odd goal.

Sharing the spoils were King’s Arms and League leaders Sun Inn who were dropping their first points of the season.

Dawson Webster and Bobby Fitzpatrick scored for King’s Arms while Richard O’Keefe and Malcolm Graham netted for the leaders.

It was a tight contest at Flimby where the home side just edged the Royal Oak 1-0 with a goal from Scott Underwood.

FC Butchers are gamely chasing Sun Inn at the top of the table but they had their work cut-out to edge past The Sun 3-2.

Brandan O’Fee netted both for The Sun but Butchers won it with goals from Cieran Laverty (2) and Jack McDowell.

Biggest winners in the Division were Senhouse Street who were too strong for Seaton Rangers.

It finished 6-0 with Zack Starkie (2), Nick Wood (2), Gary O’Driscoll and Declan Moore on the mark.

There was one game in the Albert Murphy Trophy competition for Workington clubs and Salterbeck were 3-0 winners at Swan with goals from Luke Montgomery, Niall Melton and Charlie Shaw.

Fixtures for this Sunday are:

  • Division One – Swan v Sun Inn.
  • Kenny Hailes Memorial Trophy – King’s Arms v Royal Oak; Thornhill v The Sunn.
  • Albert Murphy Trophy – FC Butchers v Northside; Flimby Social v Seaton Rangers; Senhouse Street v Dearham Commercial.
