New face for Workington Reds

Workington Reds will have a new face in the line-up for their home game with Ilkeston this afternoon.

Connor Pani, a 20-year-old left back who can also play midfield, from Gateshead is coming on a short-term loan (to mid-January).

Reds boss Danny Grainger had hoped to have the deal wrapped up for Tuesday’s game with Macclesfield but the paperwork wasn’t completed in time.

Pani is a graduate of the Gateshead Academy who featured in The Head’s promotion winning side last season, scoring the Supporters Goal of the Season against Yeovil.

Previously he had spent loan spells in the North East with both Morpeth and Blyth Spartans.

Pani joins as Reds have firmed-up their other loan arrangements with players currently at Borough Park.

Joe Bunney will now be with the Cumbrians for another 28 days after agreement was reached with his parent club Stalybridge Celtic.

Blackpool youngsters Dannen Francis has also had his loan spell extended by 28 days while bright Preston North End loanee Kitt Nelson is with the club until the end of the season.

Sam Armstrong only came in from Carlisle United last week-end and will be at the club for at least a month.

Reds were heavily beaten 6-1 at Ilkeston earlier in the season so Grainger and his team will take extra pleasure in taking any revenge back on home territory.

If they do so it will end a record sequence of six successive draws – three away and three at home.
