A Bootle farmer will be hoping to help steer Barrow Raiders Ladies into a winning combination in their Women’s Super League debut.

Winger Chloe Capstick, 19, is the team’s latest signing ahead of the 2024 season after featuring previously with the club’s reserve side.

Chloe works full-time as a farmer on a local dairy farm near her Bootle home, and has been playing rugby union for Penrith Panthers Ladies, a code she started playing eight years ago.

Her first full year of league came last season and she took part in the recent open trials at Craven Park, when her performances have convinced Barrow Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson and her coaching staff that she will be a useful addition ahead to the Super League squad.

Chloe said: “Being picked to be a part of the Super League squad means a lot to me, and I now have the platform to show my ability and what I can bring to this team.

“It will also be fantastic to be surrounded by a great group of people who can help me improve and show me where I can do better in all areas of my game.”

Head coach Amanda Wilkinson said: “I’ve watched Chloe from afar during the previous season, both playing and training in the reserves at Barrow.

“Chloe really impressed me at the trials with her speed and enthusiasm to win every situation. I invited her down to train with the squad to learn a little more about her, and she has continued to impress me more with her competitive attitude and desire.

“I love her grit. She will bring something different to our team, and I’m really looking forward to working more with this young player.”

She could enjoy her first taste of action for Barrow Ladies’ first team when they travel to face Huddersfield Giants Women in a pre-season friendly on Sunday 25 February.
