Wath Brown Hornets made tonight’s draw for the RL Challenge Cup with a comfortable 38-0 win at Hull Dockers.
The Humberside team, who are without a permanent coach for their return to the Conference’s First Division, were just about still in it at half-time.
The Brow had led 12-0 at half-time but pulled away in the second-half to win with plenty in reserve.
It was an especially pleasing victory as the Hornets had fielded only four recognised first-teamers, augmented by their highly promising Under-19s.
However it was a combination of their senior players who set them on their way after only 13 minutes. Good work by Charlie Tomlinson and Dean Rooney paved the way for Jake Moore to touchdown and Cole Walker-Taylor added the conversion.
They doubled their lead six minutes before half-time when Walker-Taylor followed up a clever kick by Rooney to get the second try which he converted as well.
Two tries in the first 11 minutes of the second-half ensured that the Dockers were out of contention.
Four minutes after the restart Sam Curwen crossed for the third try after Jack Meagan and Walker-Taylor had combined well.
Then it was Rooney who grabbed the fourth and with conversions from Walker-Taylor the Hornets enjoyed a 24-0 advantage.
Curwent went over for his second touchdown on 54 minutes and completed his hat-trick three minutes from the end.
In between Moore had grabbed his second and with Walker-Taylor nailing conversions to give him six conversions out of seven attempts Wath Brow were home and hosed – looking forward to the draw tonight.
The draws for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Challenge Cup will both take place at 6.30pm streamed live on BBC iPlayer as well as the BBC Sport website and app.
Barrow, Whitehaven and Workington Town are all involved in the draws which are being done at the home of Widnes Vikings.
