Kendal Town suffered another setback to their promotion play-off hopes when they lost 4-0 last night to top five rivals Wythenshawe.
They had put together six straight League wins to ignite their challenge before slipping to a 6-3 defeat on Friday night at AFC Liverpool.
For the most part Kendal had competed well, and it had been a particularly even first half, before the hosts scored twice at the end of the half.
Any thoughts of salvaging something from the game disappeared when Wythenshawe scored two more in the 60th and 63rd minutes.
The win took Wythenshawe top of the NW Counties Premier Division and with victories for Chadderton and Prestwich Heys pushed Kendal down to seventh.
Kendal had started brightly enough and in an even game probably created the better opportunities in the opening half hour. They also had a big shout for a penalty turned dpown when Rob Wilson went down in the box.
Then it all started going wrong for Jimmy Marshall’s side as Darrhyl Mason (38) and Kaleb Parkinson (45 +1) put them ahead before the break.
Kendal needed to score next but it was Mason who grabbed his second on 60 minutes and when Arron Hevingham made it 4-0 three minutes later it was game over.
Steve Yawson did have a chance to score a consolation goal for Kendal but he drilled his effort just wide.
