Two people were seriously injured in a collision in Workington.

It involved a silver Toyota Rav-4 and a red Toyota Yaris.

The female driver of the Yaris and her male passenger, who suffered serious injuries, were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The woman did not suffer serious injuries.

A female passenger of the Rav-4 also suffered serious injuries but the male driver and other female passenger did not suffer serious injuries. They were also taken to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.

Police were called to the collision at around 9.50pm and are appealing for information about it.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, referring to incident 226 of April 2.

Roads in Workington were closed following the incident.

Road closures were put in place between Derwent Drive, Havelock Street and Stanley Street.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area and said the road could be closed for some time.
