An open day for young engineers to find out more about Derwent Railway Society will be held later this month.
The society, based in Frizington, is hosting sessions for youngsters to pass on skills to build model railway layouts and build up engineering skills.
Derwent Railway Society was set up over 30 years ago.
It said: “The operation of the layout can be as simple as just using a single controller or at the other end of the scale, using high tech digital equipment and computers to programme and operate the trains. Most of all, we want the young engineers to have fun while learning new skills!
“Our proposed sessions will involve running one of our existing layouts and also the design and construction of a new layout.
“Our ultimate aim is that the new layout can be taken to a local model rail exhibition to be shown and operated by the young engineers who built it.”
The open day will be held on April 13 at the society’s base at 238 Frizington Road, Frizington, from 11am to 3pm.
